Optical technologies
The optical technologies are nowadays major in the national networks of research: they allow very high broadband (10 Gbit / and beyond) and some flexibility on the transported traffics (IP, projects) within the same infrastructure while reducing investment and exploitation costs
State of the Technology art
Two big themes are under review at RENATER :
- Integration of photonics services and foreign wavelengths in an optical backbone.
- Technologies beyond 100 Gbps
Bibliographical researches and documentation on these subjects and are available on-line.
RENATER refers in particular to the works realized by various working groups of the IETF, the ITU-T and the OIF in these domains.
Participation in work groups :
- CEF Networks - Customer Empowered Fibre Networks
- Terabit
- Optical Networking
Participation in research projects and deployment of optical fibers.
In progress :
- GN3 JRA1: Studies on photonic technologies and experimentation of the components of the 100Gbps Ethernet
Finished :
- GN2-JRA3: dynamic allocation of inter-field band-width
- GN2-JRA4: tests of technologies and deployment of transborder optical fibers
