Connectivity
The RENATER network provides an IPv4 and IPv6 connectivity service to all the RENATER’s sites
Nowadays it connects more than 1300 education and research sites in Metropolitan France and Overseas Departments and Territories and a hundred are already connected with IPv6
In addition to the Unicast, RENATER provides a multicast service which is available in native mode for both IP protocol ( IPv4 and IPv6). The multicast allows an optimum diffusion from a source to a set of addressees with replication within the network.
The circuits
An end-to-end circuit (also called VPN service) is available on RENATER. This service is using various technologies (MPLS,DWDM, etc.)
2 types of circuits are available :
- Point to-point circuits which enable private interconnection service between two sites.
- Multi-point to multipoint circuits which enable interconnections between several RENATER sites in the same private network.
Since November 2011, possibility by request to IPv6 connectivity on a level 3 VPN thanks to the IPv6 technology used within the RENATER’s infrastructure.
